University of Illinios Urbana-Champaign. Siebel School of Computing and Data Science.
Hi, my name is Jiayue Melissa Shi ✨时佳玥✨, and I am currently a first-year M.S. student in Computer Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I am working with Professor Koustuv Saha in the OnCARE (Online and Connected AI Reflections) Lab at UIUC.
I will be graduating in May 2027 and am actively looking for industry roles including research scientist, machine learning engineer, and software development engineer positions in AI, ML, and HCI. If you are working on problems at the intersection of human-centered AI and mental health, I would love to connect — please feel free to reach out at mshi24@illinois.edu!
My research interests lie at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI) and mental health, with a focus on developing innovative technologies to enhance well-being. I am also interested in computational social science, examining how individuals interact with technology and how their perceptions impact mental health care and depression self-management. In particular, I explore the effectiveness and user experience of LLM-powered and AI-based chatbots, investigating their potential to provide personalized support and improve mental health outcomes. My work aims to understand how these technologies can be designed to better meet user needs and integrate seamlessly into existing mental health frameworks.
